A Small Jar

BEST LINE EVER!

This is from the truly amazing but highly distressing Novel 'Phantom' by Susan Kay and is an actual quote from the book. It happens while Erik is in Persia, building a palace for the Shah. He meets the Kings mother for the first time and she orders him to remove his make...he refuses.

The passage reads:
"If you have no great attachment to your head," she continued slowly, "perhaps you would prefer to share the fate of a Chinese eunuch and carry your genitalia around with you in a small jar of brine"
He made a graceful shrug of mocking indifference
"Are you sure a small jar would contain me, madame?"

I am in love with this man...

I read this part while i was at work and started laughing hysterically...needless to say my co-workers were very a little startled.

Phantom is my new Favorite book, though its taken me forever to read because i have to keep putting it down...its just too much to read at once (and it has NOTHING to do with its length) Its an emotionally stressful experience.
